Home town boy makes good: Illustrator Don Moyer does riff on designs of china from China

by Chuck Green at ideabook.com

Don Moyer has become famous in illustration circles for his Calamityware plates. They are a take on the Willow Pattern ceramic designs from 18th century England (which were, as I read it, a riff on designs of china from China).

Here’s his latest…

Here’s the Calamityware collection…

Details about one of the plates…

For you detail nuts, about the Willow Pattern…

I thought it would be interesting to see what else he’s up to. So here’s some past and present work. His Flickr profile, in part, tells us, “I’m a big fan of self-inflicted projects. I like to define some playground and then explore it.”

That playfulness will be obvious in short order…

Wearables…

Moyer’s Flickr collection…

Don Moyer’s sketchbook and blog…

You still here? I’d like to think, when Don Moyer uses the phase, “I gotta go” at the end of his video clip on Kickstarter, that he’s paying homage to Ian Shoals…

Ian Shoals (Merle Kessler) is the guy John Green of Vlogbrothers realized he had been emulating)…

I gotta go.
