When is the next Mac Pro coming?

by Chuck Green at ideabook.com

My Mac Pro is vintage 2010—the tower case model (the cheese grater) similar to the original announced at WWDC in 2006. It was too soon to purchase the cylindrical version (the trash can) when it debuted in 2013 so I’ve been holding out, the last two years, for the next iteration. And waiting. And waiting.

(I decided against going the route of the iMac Pro because I use a NEC MultiSync monitor that I can calibrate and I’m not crazy about the iMac’s limitations on upgrading.)

Though, compared to other Apple products, the wait has been unprecedented, it appears now that the next-generation Mac Pro is coming 2019. In case you are in a similar situation, I’ll share what I’ve read.

From MacRumors: Mac Pro Buyer’s Guide

From TechCrunch: Apple’s 2019 Mac Pro will be shaped by workflows by Matthew Panzarino

TechCrunch Transcript: Phil Schiller, Craig Federighi and John Ternus on the state of Apple’s pro Macs

From MacRumors: A new modular Mac Pro is in development and is set to launch in 2019…

From Rogue Amoeba: On The Sad State of Macintosh Hardware by Quentin Carnicelli…

For you viewing pleasure: A History of the Mac Pro (and Power Mac)

In the meantime?

Microsoft’s Surface Studio…

HP Z Workstations…

Velocity Micro’s Adobe Creative Cloud workstations…

The relatively new iMac Pro…

The old, existing Mac Pro…
