“I believe design can change people’s minds.”

by Chuck Green at ideabook.com

Those are the words of Margo Chase—the renowned graphic designer, lettering artist, and founder of the Chase Design Group. Her’s is a deep, interesting story that began in the entertainment business. Sadly, Ms. Chase died practicing her other passion, aerial acrobatics, in July of 2017—clearly a life fully lived.

First, a lovely biographical piece written about Margo Chase by Kristin Ellison:

Final Flight: Margo Chase, a Great American Designer…

And two notable profiles…

Lynda Weinman, of Lynda.com interviews Margo Chase…

Will Sherwood provides another excellent interview…

Margo Chase’s legacy, of course, is the Chase Design Group—I point you to it because I so admire the quality of the work they produce. If you’re not careful you can miss the nuance of this type of high-end retail branding. They combine conventional typefaces with custom wordmarks, illustrations, photographs, and use color in ways that take the work that critical step beyond mere aesthetics. (The illustration above is work created by the Chase Design Group, not Ms. Chase.)
